Houston Astros

The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired minor league pitcher Raul Valdes from the Houston Astros in exchange for a player to be named later or cash.

Valdes made eight appearances for the Astros this season, all of them out of the bullpen, giving up five runs in 3 2/3 innings. He was designated for assignment on May 4 and outrighted to Oklahoma City two days later.

The native of Cuba has also spent time with the Mets, Yankees, Cardinals and Phillies. He is a career 7-7 with a 5.13 earned run average in 103 games including three starts.

The deal comes one day after the Blue Jays optioned pitcher Marcus Stroman to their Triple-A affiliate in Buffalo. Stroman made five appearances out of the bullpen, giving up 10 runs in 6 1/3 innings of work for an ERA of 12.79 ERA.

The Blue Jays open a three game series against the Boston Red Sox Tuesday night at Fenway Park.
