The Toronto Blue Jays are in the hunt for another closer.

Kevin Gregg, who recorded 37 saves in his first season in that role for the Toronto Blue Jays, is a free agent after the American League club declined both options under the terms of his contract.

Gregg, 32, posted a 2-6 record and a 3.51 earned-run average this past season with the Blue Jays.

His 37 savers tied him for the fourth highest in the AL along with Jonathan Papelbon of the Boston Red Sox.

But Gregg was also erratic at times with his control and also had six blown saves and an unsavoury 1.39 WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched).

In eight major-league seasons, the Corvallis, Ore., native has recorded 122 saves with a 4.03 ERA in 406 games for Anaheim, Florida, the Chicago Cubs and Toronto.

The Blue Jays held club options of $5.25-million (all currency U.S.) for 2011, or a two-year option of $9.5-million for 2011 and 2012 but said Thursday night they were declining both.

It is unclear will succeed Gregg as the Blue Jays closer but it is anticipated that David Purcey will get a close look in spring training.
