NEED TO KNOW

The Orioles have been the surprise team in major-league baseball in 2012, holding down first place in the tough American League East for most of the season. If Baltimore keep this up, Buck Showalter, who earned his 1,000th career victory this month, will chalk up his third manager-of-the-year award. Baltimore came into the weekend leading the majors in home runs and the Blue Jays pitching staff is among the worst in surrendering home runs. Something will have to give. The Blue Jays are 1-5 against the Orioles this year, getting swept in Baltimore the last time they met April 24 through 26.
