Tampa Bay pitcher Jeff Niemann left Monday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays after being hit by an Adam Lind ground ball in the first inning.

Niemann (2-3) saw the trainer and finished out the inning after taking the ball around the ankle. But after throwing a warmup pitch before the second, the six-foot-nine right-hander thought better of it and went to the dugout.

Left-hander Cesar Ramos came in for him with the score at 0-0.

Niemann threw 23 pitches, giving up one hit and a walk.
