The CFL Players' Association has raised its voice in the aftermath of Ed Hervey's rant.
Hervey, the Edmonton Eskimos general manager, exploded on his team after its 37-34 Labour Day loss to the Calgary Stampeders.
Not only did Hervey chastise his coaching staff, he was critical of the players, especially offensive lineman Simeon Rottier. Hervey said he wouldn't be unhappy if Rottier didn't play again season.
The CFLPA issued a news release Monday, stating it deemed Hervey's comments to be "inappropriate, and contrary to the collective bargaining agreement" and expects the CFL to publicly announce what disciplinary action was taken against him.
According to CFLPA president Mike Morreale: "The CBA clearly prohibits clubs and their employees from publicly criticizing the on-field performance of any player in the CFL. The purpose of this provision is to ensure all CFL players, as well as all CFL personnel, are dealt with in a manner that is respectful and professional, and the CFLPA will not tolerate anything less in the treatment of one of its players."
The players' association noted how the "CFL commissioner's office has a history of responding quickly to punish players who make public comments that could be construed as derogatory in any way." In return, Morreale noted it was "troubling that the CFL has made no public announcement of any action that has been taken in this matter."
To date, it is not known if Hervey has been sanctioned or fined by the league for his Labour Day remarks.
