Joey Elliott named CFL offensive player of the week

Winnipeg quarterback Joey Elliott was named CFL offensive player of the week Wednesday after leading the Blue Bombers to a surprising 27-22 victory over the Montreal Alouettes.

Starting for injured quarterback Buck Pierce, Elliott completed 17 of 25 passes and threw for 335 yards and a career-high three touchdowns in Winnipeg's first road win of the season. He completed a 15-yard TD pass to Rory Kohlert at 9:26 of the fourth quarter to put the Blue Bombers up to stay.

Edmonton Eskimos defensive back Chris Thompson took the defensive player of the week honour. He had three tackles and two interceptions in the Eskimos' 30-25 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The special-teams nod went to Saskatchewan Roughriders kicker Sandro DeAngelis. He was five for six on field-goal attempts and hit all three extra-point conversions in a 36-10 win over the Toronto Argonauts.

B.C. Lions running back Andrew Harris was named top Canadian player of the week.

The Winnipeg native ran for 73 yards and one touchdown on 15 carries in the Lions' 27-22 win over Calgary. Harris also had 52 yards on four receptions.
