Jovan Olafioye has returned to the B.C. Lions after being released by the St. Louis Rams due to a medical concern.

The import offensive lineman, who signed with the Rams a week ago, was released late Thursday. His agent, Dan Vertlieb, issued a statement: "The St. Louis Rams have notified Jovan Olafioye that they have released him from his contract due to their concerns about a medical issue. Given the closing window to explore opportunities in the NFL in Jovan's current CFL contract, he will return to the B.C. Lions for another season after thoroughly addressing his status."

There was no official word on Olafioye's problems or whether he failed a medical after having signed with the NFL team.

Lions' general manager Wally Buono was quoted as saying: "We are pleased to welcome Jovan back and we will work with him closely in coming months to ensure any issues that may have arisen are addressed."

The 6-foot-6, 315-pound Olafioye was the West Division's nominee for most outstanding offensive lineman last season. A statement from the Lions had Olafioye saying, "While this news was unexpected, I am very happy to be returning to my family at the B.C. Lions."
