The Calgary Stampeders spared few words Monday when they chastised one of their players for "offensive comments" linked to Michael Sam, the first openly gay player to be drafted by an NFL team.
Receiver Maurice Price drew the ire of his CFL team and others when he tweeted, "My faith won't allow me to ACCEPT what took place over the weekend! Sorry, NOT sorry! #AdamAndEve #NotAdamAndAdam."
The Stampeders issued a statement saying they were "outraged" by the comments, calling them "repugnant and in no way reflect the organization's views or values."
Price, later contacted by the Calgary Sun, said he has nothing personal against Sam and "was speaking about homosexuality in general. As a Christian, obviously it's not something I can condone or accept."
Price insisted he was not homophobic. He is likely to be fined by the Stampeders or by the CFL.
The NFL fined and suspended Miami Dolphins defensive back Don Jones for tweeting "horrible" after Sam celebrated being chosen in the NFL draft by kissing his boyfriend.
