The Calgary Stampeders have released their all-time leading rusher.
Joffrey Reynolds was cut by the Canadian Football League team Monday after team officials said they were unable to trade the 32-year-old import running back.
"Despite our attempts to find Joffrey a new home, we were unable to complete a transaction," Stampeders' general manager and head coach John Hufnagel said in a statement. "By releasing him now rather than waiting until later in the off-season, we wanted to make sure Joffrey had the best opportunity to sign with another team. We thank Joffrey for his years of excellent service to the Stampeders and wish him all the best."
Reynolds played eight seasons with the Stampeders and became the franchise's and became leading rusher during the 2010 season. Last season, he was replaced by West Division all-star Jon Cornish, who finished as Calgary's leading rusher (863 yards).
Cornish, from New Westminster, B.C., signed a contract extension with the Stampeders in December.
Reynolds ran for 9,213 yards and 53 touchdowns in his career and had 226 catches for 2,036 yards and eight touchdowns.
