Hamilton Tiger-Cats running back C.J. Gable has been named the CFL player of the week.

Gable rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown and added 46 receiving yards as the Ticats beat the Toronto Argonauts 24-18 last week.

Gable has 346 yards and two touchdowns over Hamilton's last three games, including back-to-back wins against the Argos that moved the Ticats within two points of first place in the CFL East.

Elsewhere, Calgary star running back Jon Cornish picked up Canadian of the week honours for the fifth time this year.

Cornish ran for 130 yards on 15 carries and scored a touchdown in West-leading Calgary's 40-26 win over the B.C. Lions. He also had three receptions for 35 yards.

Cornish, from New Westminster, B.C., currently leads the CFL in rushing with 1,545 yards, the most ever in a single season by a Canadian, and 13 touchdowns this season.

Edmonton linebacker Rennie Curran was the top defensive player. Curran recorded a career-high eleven tackles and caught an interception in Edmonton's narrow 14-9 loss to Saskatchewan.

Calgary punter Rod Maver took the special team award. The native of Brampton, Ont., had five punts in the game for a total of 245 yards (an average of 49 yards) in Calgary's win over the Lions.
