Brooke Henderson set a new championship scoring record on her way to victory on Thursday at the PGA Women's Championship of Canada, The 16-year-old carded a final round 66 for a two-day total of 13-under par at FireRock Golf Club in Komoka, Ont. Over the course of the two-day event, Henderson recorded 14 birdies and an eagle.

"I struggled a little bit on the front nine–I was hitting some great shots but the putts just weren't dropping," said Henderson. "But that all changed starting on No. 10 with a birdie. I think I had five in a row coming down the stretch and it was awesome."

American Hannah Jun, the 2008 winner, finished five strokes back while Hamilton's Alena Sharp, a former three-time winner of the event, was a further stroke back in third. Samantha Richdale of Kelowna, B.C. and American Simin Feng rounded out the top five. Henderson's older sister, Brittany, who just recently turned pro, finished sixth, 10 strokes behind her sister.

The event counted as the third and final stop on the Canadian Women's Tour and with the win Henderson wrapped up Player of the Year honours, which carries with it an exemption into this month's CP Canadian Women's Open championship.

The victory also continues an impressive run by Henderson, the No. 2 ranked amateur player in the world, which includes low amateur honours at the U.S. Women's Open and victories at the Canadian Women's Tour event in Niagara Falls, the Porter Cup and the Ontario Women's Amateur Championship.

Michelle Piyapattra, Richdale and Feng also received exemptions into the Canadian Open based on their play during the 2014 Canadian Women's Tour season.
