Chris Hemmerich now inside top 5 in Canada's Weekly Top 10

Chris Hemmerich wins Ontario Men's Amateur

Golf Association of Ontario

The Ontario Amateur championship provided room for a lot of movement over the past week in the men's amateur rankings.

Chris Hemmerich of Kitchener, Ont. came away the big winner, coming from five shots off the pace to shoot a final round 63 and hold on for a one stroke victory. With the win, Hemmerich moved up 43 spots in the world rankings and vaulted up to No. 4 in Canada.

Top ranked Taylor Pendrith and Kent State teammate Corey Conners both finished tied for second at the Ontario Amateur after both co-leading the event heading into the final round. For Pendrith, he moved up to a career-best No. 15 in the world while Conners moved up 11 spots and reclaimed the No. 2 ranking in Canada ahead of Adam Svensson.

Other winners at the Ontario Amateur: Ryan Borg, who finished fifth and climbed 102 spots in the world rankings; Blair Hamilton finished fourth and rose 89 spots; and Elliott Whitley posted a tie for eighth which vaulted him up 108 spots in the world rankings and back into the top 20 in Canada.

Garrett Rank relinquished a six stroke lead on the final day of the prestigious Players Amateur to finish in the runner-up spot. It continues what has been an impressive season for Rank which includes a tie for 7th at the Dixie Amateur and a tie for third at the Monroe Invitational Championship.

Rank's 37 spot climb in the rankings also means that all five members of Canada's National Men's Team are now ranked within the top 100 in the world for first time ever. That comes on the heels of having all five members of Canada's National Women's Team all ranked within top 100 in the world from May up until this past week.

James Fahy climbed 141 spots in the world rankings following his performance at the Pacific Northwest Amateur. After finishing tied for 10th in stroke play, he entered match play as the 12th seed. After winning his opening match 4 & 3, Fahy fought back from being 3-down with four holes to play before eventually losing 2 & 1 in the round of 32.

Also, Jared du Toit finds himself back in the top 10 in Canada, climbing 12 spots to sit at No. 9

On the women's amateur side of things, Canada's top ranked Brooke Henderson remains No. 2 in the world. The 16-year-old went wire-to-wire to capture the 2014 Ontario Women's Amateur. It's the latest in a series of strong finishes for Henderson which includes winning the Porter Cup, a 10th place finish at the U.S. Women's Open and a win at the Canadian Women's Tour event. Henderson is just over 61 points behind world No. 1 Minjee Lee, who failed to make the cut at last week's Women's British Open.

Also at the Ontario Women's Amateur, Augusta James moved up to No. 3 in Canada after finishing second while Brittany Marchand is up to No. 5 in Canada with a third place finish.

Outside the top 10, A. Ram Choi jumped 26 spots after finishing two strokes behind winner Taylor Kim after co-leading the tournament briefly midway through the event.

Vivian Tsui climbed 82 spots after finishing in a tie for fourth at the Ontario Women's Amateur.

On the professional side, Matt Hill gained 476 spots in the world rankings after finishing in a tie for second at The Players Cup on PGA Tour Canada. It was his first top 10 result of the year and third best career result since 2012 when he won and finished second in a pair of Canadian Tour events.

Ryan Yip gained 154 spots and moved to No. 19 in Canada after finishing in a tie for fifth at The Players Cup, his best result on PGA Tour Canada this year and his third top 15 result in four events.

Brad Fritsch moved up 30 spots after finishing in a tie for 13th at the John Deere Classic, only his third top 15 result of the season and his best PGA Tour result since a tie for 10th back in January.

On the women's side, Alena Sharp moved up 10 places after finishing in a tie for 51st at the Women's British Open.
