Steve Williams says he plans to scale back his workload after 2014 meaning Adam Scott will have a decision to make when it comes to who will be on his bag at the end of next year.
While caddying for Scott at the Australian PGA this week, Williams said he planned to adopt a part-time schedule after next year. He would be available for Scott at each of the four majors and for the bulk of the PGA Tour schedule. However, he would return home to his native New Zealand during the fall months.
"What I would like to do is caddie from March, or caddie from the Florida swing in America, to the Tour championship," Williams told the Australian newspaper. "I hope that works out (for he and Scott). I still love caddying in the major championships and I really enjoy caddying for Adam."
"Unlike most caddies, I have lived in New Zealand the whole time I have caddied," Williams explained. "At some point in time I want to get off that train. I love my racing... That's my passion."
Williams gained notoriety alongside Tiger Woods as his caddy from 1999 until and public and uneasy split in 2011. Later that year, he joined forces with Scott and their partnership culminated in the Aussie's first Masters championship this past spring. It was the 14th career major that Williams has been on the bag.
"Next year will be 36 years. I like 36, it's a nice number, it's a golf number," he said alluding to the fact that two rounds of 18 holes equals 36.
Recently, Scott spoke of his goal of winning the remaining three of golf's majors to give him the career grand slam - a feat that only five golfers have accomplished. In the last two years, Scott has scaled back his PGA schedule, playing in just 16 events in order to peak in time for each of the majors.
