Henderson, Conners headline 2013 Team Canada

Six men and five women have been selected to to represent Team Canada's National Squad in 2013.

Of the 11 athletes selected, six are returning team members from this year's squad with four newcomers and one player making the jump from the Development Squad.

Brooke Henderson, the 15-year-old phenom from Smiths Falls, Ont., moves up from the 2012 Development Squad after a standout season which included a victory at the CN Canadian Women's Tour stop in Beloeil, Que. which made her the youngest player to ever win a professional golf event. At number 38 in the world amateur rankings, Henderson is the top-ranked female amateur player in Canada. She is joined on the women's national team by returning players Christine Wong of Richmond, B.C., Augusta James of Bath, Ont., Brittany Marchand of Orangeville, Ont. and Jisoo Keel of Coquitlam, B.C.

On the men's side, Garrett Rank of Elmira, Ont., the 2012 Canadian University/College champion, as well as former Nova Scotia Men's Amateur and Nova Scotia Junior Boys champion Eric Banks of Truro, N.S. return as members of Team Canada. Corey Conners of Listowel, Ont. returns to the squad after a one-year absence and will joined by newcomers Justin Shin of Pitt Meadows, B.C., Chris Hemmerich of Kitchener, Ont. and Taylor Pendrith of Richmond Hill, Ont. Hemmerich, a member of the University of Guelph Gryphons golf team, becomes the third product of a Canadian post-secondary golf program in as many years to earn a spot on Team Canada.

Golf Canada also named a 22-and-under Development Squad which features six male and five female athletes. The Development Squad is designed to help facilitate the continued development of Canada's top young players.
