Canada's Brooke Henderson has verbally committed to a college career at the University of Florida.

According to a report in the Ottawa Citizen, the 16-year-old golf sensation from Smiths Falls, Ontario selected the Gators ahead of the University of Miami.

Currently ranked No. 7 in the world among female amateur players, Henderson said she had visited the Gators campus in Gainsville, Florida on more than one occassion before making her decision.

"They were sort of saving one spot for me," Henderson told the newspaper.

Henderson's older sister, Brittany, completed a four year collegiate career last spring at Coastal Carolina University in South Carolina.

Henderson, a member of Canada's National Team, started 2014 with wins at the prestigious Junior Orange Bowl International and Women's South Atlantic Amateur Championship. She is coming off a successful 2013 campaign that included wins at the South American Amateur championship, the Canadian Women's Amateur Championship, a victory at the CN Future Links Pacific event and medalist honours at the Spirit International. Henderson also made an impression at the professional level, qualifying and making the cut at the Women's U.S. Open as well as competing in the Manulife LPGA Classic in Waterloo, Ont. and the Canadian Women's Open in Edmonton.
