Brad Fristch of Ottawa recorded his second top-10 finish of the season Sunday when he tied for fifth place at the Chitimacha Louisiana Open in Broussard, La.
The veteran entered the final round Sunday with a share of 45th place but rocketed up the leaderboard by shooting nine-under 62, the lowest score of the tournament – and his Nationwide career – at Le Triomphe Golf and Country Club.
Fritsch wrapped up at 15 under overall, nine shots back of runaway winner Casey Wittenberg. The American shot 65 to dust his nearest pursuers (runners-up Fabian Gomez, Chris Riley and Paul Claxton) by eight strokes and pick up his first career title.
Fritsch collected $16,950 for his finish and moved to No. 16 on the tour's money list this year. The top 25 at the end of the season earn 2013 PGA Tour cards.
Adam Hadwin of Abbotsford, B.C., tied for 18th place at 11 under. It's the rookie's best finish in five career starts on the developmental circuit, but might come as a disappointment since he started the final round tied for fourth place and then slumped to a 73.
Richard Scott of Kingsville, Ont., tied for 36th spot at eight under and Matt McQuillan of Kingston finished at one over, sharing 64th.
