Adam Hadwin posted a final round 71 Sunday for his best finish of the year at the Web.com Tour's United Leasing Championship. His 9-under par total left him in fifth place, two shots behind a group of players who needed a playoff on Monday to decide the winner.
It was the fourth consecutive round under par for the Abbotsford, B.C. golfer who just missed making it a five-man playoff by two strokes - a double bogey on the par-4 sixth proving to be the difference.
Prior to this past weekend, Hadwin had made just seven of 11 cuts with his best result being a tie for 20th at the WNB Golf Classic.
Ben Martin two-putted for par on the first playoff hole Monday for his first career win.
Martin drew the leadoff spot in a four-man playoff and played the 18th hole perfectly. A 3-wood into the fairway was followed by a 6-iron on the green and two putts for a par-4 that was good enough to beat Joe Affrunti, Ashley Hall and Billy Hurley III.
Affrunti and Hurley III each made bogey while Hall posted a quadruple-bogey 8 after finding the water twice on the 18th hole.
The four were tied at 11-under 277 following the end of regulation play Sunday but a nearly four-hour rain delay didn't leave them enough daylight for the overtime session.
It was the first time since 2006 that a Monday finish was necessary to determine a winner.
Hurley and Affrunti were in the driver's seat, playing in the final two-some on Sunday and hovering around the lead at 13-under par. Hall grabbed the clubhouse lead following a round of 66 and was joined by Martin, who turned in a round of 67. Both Hurley and Affrunti were two shots clear of the field as they stood on the 17th tee but a double-bogey by Hurley on the final hole and a four-putt by Affrunti left them all tied at 11-under par as darkness fell.
It was the first four-man playoff since the 2007 WNB Golf Classic.
