Graham DeLaet, of Canada, watches his drive on the 18th hole during the third round of the Travelers Championship golf tournament in Cromwell, Conn., Saturday, June 22, 2013The Associated Press

Graham DeLaet's stretch of strong play this year has earned him a berth in the British Open.

The R&A, which conducts the major championship, broke the news to DeLaet Monday by e-mail.

"I officially made the field for the British Open!" the Weyburn, Sask., native tweeted Monday morning. "So pumped."

This will be DeLaet's first major.

He gained entry because of his standing in the world ranking. After a tie for 30th at the PGA Tour's Greenbrier Classic in West Virginia on Sunday, he's No. 67 in the world.

Canada's highest-rated male golfer climbed into the top 100 of the world ranking this season amid a streak of seven starts in which he didn't finish out of the top 30. In consecutive weeks in June, he had a third-place finish at the Travelers Championship and a tie for eighth at the AT&T National.

The Open begins July 18 at Muirfield in Scotland. DeLaet will be the only Canadian in the field.

According to U.S. golf writer Ron Sirak, seven other players qualified based on their world ranking Monday as well: Greenbrier winner Jonas Blixt, Martin Laird, Fredrik Jacobson, Marc Leishman, Kyle Stanley, Chris Wood and Ken Duke.
