Notable PGA stars added to RBC Canadian Open field

Canada’s PGA fab five - Graham DeLaet, David Hearn, Stephen Ames, Mike Weir and Brad Fritsch

Reigning British Open champion Ernie Els headlines a trio of top-10 U.S. Open finishers who have confirmed their entry for the upcoming RBC Canadian Open.

Els, who finished tied for fourth at Merion, is joined by Hunter Mahan, who also finished in a tie for fourth, and Luke Donald, who finished in a tie for eighth at golf's second major.

As well, three more top-10 ranked players in the world - Matt Kuchar, Brandt Snedeker and Graeme McDowell - have also indicated their intention to play in the event, July 25-28 at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ontario.

Scott Piercy will be back to defend the title he won a year ago in Hamilton along with PGA Tour notables Jim Furyk, a two-time Canadian Open winner, Vijay Singh and Camilo Villegas.

The Canadian contingent will be represented in part by Team RBC members Graham DeLaet, David Hearn, Stephen Ames and Mike Weir along with PGA Tour rookie Brad Fritsch of Ottawa. Kevin Carrigan of Victoria, B.C. secured his spot in the field with his victory at the 2012 Canadian Men's Mid-Amateur Championship.

"The strength of our field is a testament to the commitment of our partners at RBC in delivering a world-class event experience to Canadian golf fans and that's certainly what they can expect when the world's best player's tee it up at Glen Abbey Golf Club next month," said tournament director Bill Paul.

A number of other Canadian golfers will also be attempting to qualify for Canada's National Open Golf Championship in the coming weeks at two regional qualifiers. Additional exemptions for Canadian amateur and professional golfers will be announced in the coming weeks.
