The St. Louis Blues signed centre Derek Roy to a one-year contract on Saturday.

St. Louis has been looking for a top centre since before the trade deadline and hopes to have found it in Roy, whose deal is done pending a physical, according to the team.

The 30-year-old split last season between the Dallas Stars and Vancouver Canucks and finished with seven goals and 21 assists. The five-foot-nine playmaker played the bulk of his NHL career with the Buffalo Sabres, where he had a career-high 81 points in 2007-08.

Roy's deal is worth $4-million (U.S.).
