Andrew Ference was suspended for three games, minus pay, for his run-in with New York Rangers defenceman Ryan McDonagh on Saturday, the NHL announced.

The Boston Bruins defenseman will forfeit $36,486.48 for boarding McDonagh, the league announced.

Ference was called for a major penalty and a game misconduct for charging at the time of the play, which occurred at the 1:50 mark of overtime.

The Rangers won the game, 3-2.

Ference has 20 points, with four goals in 43 games this season.
