Montreal Canadiens defenceman Josh Gorges has agreed to a new six-year deal according to a report by TSN. Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE

The Montreal Canadiens have locked up one of their top defencemen, signing Josh Gorges to a six-year contract extension Sunday.



Gorges leads the team with a plus-6 rating and 101 blocked shots over 39 games. He also has 10 points (one goal, nine assists).



The 27-year-old native of Kelowna, B.C., is in his sixth season with the Canadiens. He has 10 goals and 59 assists over that span.



He was named an assistant captain this season.
