The Montreal Canadiens have signed their first round pick Alex Galchenyuk to a three-year, entry-level contract.

The 18-year-old from Milwaukee, Wis., only played three games last season with the OHL's Sarnia Sting because of an knee injury.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound forward had 31 goals and 52 assists in 68 games in the 2010-11 season. He also served 52 penalty minutes.

Montreal picked Galchenyuk third overall this year.
