Vancouver Canucks defenceman Dan Hamhuis is joining Canada at the IIHF World Championship.

The Canucks were swept in the first round of NHL playoffs by the San Jose Sharks.

Hamhuis played in four straight world championships for Canada from 2006 to 2009.

The 30-year-old from Smithers, B.C., won gold in 2007 and silver in both 2008 and 2009.

The addition of Hamhuis brings Canada's roster up to 23 players, including eight defencemen.

Each country can have a maximum of 25.
