Vancouver Canucks prospect Yann Sauvé is expected to return to full health -- and the ice -- after being struck by a vehicle on Saturday.

Sauvé, 20, sustained abrasions to his face and body after being hit while crossing Burrard Street near Smithe Street, a busy downtown Vancouver corner. The Montreal-born defenceman, a former second-round draft pick, was taken to hospital and promptly released.

Sauvé's status for a rookie tournament in Penticton, B.C., this weekend will be determined after a medical exam on Friday. Assistant general manager Laurence Gilman said it does not appear that Sauvé sustained any sort of injury that could impede his hockey career, but that he would not skate for several days.

"Needless to say, we're being cautious with him," Gilman said. "He is in the process of recovering, but will be further evaluated as time evolves."
