The Vancouver Canucks have signed free-agent forwards Marco Sturm and Mark Mancari.

Sturm, 32, signed a one-year deal worth $2.25-million (all currencies U.S.) after splitting last season between the Washington Capitals and Los Angeles Kings. A veteran of 890 NHL games, Sturm joins Mikael Samuelsson, Mason Raymond and Chris Higgins in a group of wingers that will vie for time beside Ryan Kesler on Vancouver's second line.

Sturm was placed on waivers by the Kings last year, and claimed by the Capitals, and played in just 35 games, registering 16 points. He also missed time with a right knee injury, after being traded to Los Angeles from the Boston Bruins in December.

Mancari, a six-foot-four, 225-lb. forward, has played 36 games over four NHL seasons, including 20 last season when he scored one goal and added seven assists. He signed a one-year deal worth $525,000.

Vancouver lost third-line winger Raffi Torres to the Phoenix Coyotes Friday in the first day of NHL free agency. The Canucks also re-signed defenceman Sami Salo and winger Chris Higgins hours before they hit the open market. Salo signed for one year at $2 million. Higgins remained with team on a two-year pact worth $1.9 million annually.
