The Calgary Flames are in foreign territory, with their ace goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff injured and listed as day-to-day.

Kiprusoff suffered a "lower-body injury" in Tuesday night's 4-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings. He played the first two periods then gave way to backup Leyland Irving, who made six saves to preserve the victory.

"During the intermission, it was decided that I not return to play," Kiprusoff said in a statement issued by the team Wednesday. "I really believe that this is a short term injury and over the next days, I'll work toward being ready as soon as possible."

With Kiprusoff sidelined, the Flames announced they had signed goalie Danny Taylor. He was scheduled to join the team in time for Wednesday's game in Columbus against the Blue Jackets.

Taylor has played for the AHL's Abbotsford Heat the past two seasons. He has appeared in a total of 120 career AHL games registering 59 wins along with a 2.32 GAA and a .914 save percentage.

Taylor was originally selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the 7th round of the 2004 NHL Draft.

Kiprusoff has played in more than 70 games each of the past seven seasons.
