There were a record number in Round 1, with an incredible 16 of the 48 games going into extra time.

And already after five games in Round 2, there have been two more trips to overtime.

That parity that Gary Bettman wanted? Well, this is it.

The record for overtimes in a single playoffs is a famous one.

Back in 1993, the last time a Canadian team won, the Montreal Canadiens won 10 of their 16 playoff games in extra time, setting a record for a single team and contributing a great deal to another one given there were 28 total overtime games that year.

That season, 32.9 per cent of games went beyond 60 minutes.

So far in these playoffs, 34 per cent of games have gone to OT, with the Phoenix Coyotes leading the way by taking part in six of them.

In any given playoff year, there are between 80 and 90 total games, which depends on the number of sweeps and Game 7 that are played.

To tie the overtime record this year, there will need to be 10 more games going past regulation in the next 30 or so games, which is certainly possible given the current pace.
