Defenceman Carl Gunnarsson has re-signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs on a two-year, $2.65-million contract.

A pending restricted free agent, Gunnarsson had 20 points, with four goals and 16 assists, in 68 games last season with the Leafs. He will make $1.4-million in the first year of the new deal and $1.25-million in the second for a cap hit of $1.325-million.

The 6-foot-2, 196-pound Gunnarsson was Toronto's seventh-round pick (194th overall) in the 2007 draft. He has seven goals and 28 assists in 111 career games with the Leafs.

Gunnarsson won a silver medal with Sweden at this year's world championships.

After signing netminder James Reimer and Gunnarsson in the past few days, Leafs GM Brian Burke's notable remaining RFAs to get under contract are Luke Schenn, Tyler Bozak, Clarke MacArthur, Ben Scrivens, Luca Caputi and Christian Hanson.

Toronto has approximately $22-million in cap space available, assuming the salary cap rises $4-million, as expected, in the off-season.
