The Calgary Flames head-coaching switch has cost Craig Hartsburg his job. The veteran NHL coach, who served as associate under former head man Brent Sutter last season, was let go Thursday by the Flames' new bench boss Bob Hartley.

Jacques Cloutier will be Hartley's main assistant while another coach is still to be hired.

In a news release, the 52-year-old Hartsburg was quoted as saying: "I believe it is best for Bob Hartley, coming into a new coaching situation, to have his own staff. I'm looking forward to my next venture in hockey."

Hartsburg was head coach of the Ottawa Senators for less than a season in 2008-09. The Sens fired him in February.

No decision has been announced yet on the fate of Flames' goaltending coach Clint Malarchuk.
