Globe and Mail columnist Roy MacGregor is this year's print media honoree by the Hockey Hall of Fame. He is the winner of the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award, which is selected by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association. MacGregor was recognized for his graceful, eloquent storytelling over a career that has seen his writing appear in a long list of newspapers and magazines, including The Globe, the National Post, the Ottawa Citizen, the Toronto Star and Maclean's magazine, and in many books, on topics from hockey to the mysterious death of artist Tom Thomson.

The Hockey Hall of Fame's broadcast media honoree is Rick Jeanneret, the long-time play-by-play voice of the Buffalo Sabres. He was given the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award by the NHL Broadcasters' Association.

Also, Montreal Gazette hockey writer Red Fisher announced his retirement yesterday after 57 years of covering the NHL. His first assignment was to cover the infamous Montreal riots in 1955 over the suspension of Canadiens superstar Maurice Richard.
