Ondrej Pavelec recorded his first shutout of the season and Adam Lowry scored the only goal that was needed Tuesday night as the Winnipeg Jets beat the Vancouver Canucks 2-0.

Pavelec stopped all 28 Vancouver shots for his ninth victory of his injury-shortened season, while Vancouver's Jacob Markstrom made 47 saves in a losing cause.

Mark Scheifele added an empty-netter in the dying seconds of the game for his team-leading 24th of the season.

Vancouver has now been shut out in its last three contests, having not scored a goal in 11 periods dating back to the first period of its March 16 matchup at home against the Colorado Avalanche.

Early in the third period Lowry found a net-side puck in traffic and quickly wrapped it around and banked it in off Markstrom's skate to make it 1-0 Winnipeg at the 2:30 mark.

Lowry's 6th of the season is the sophomore's second goal in his last five games, having gone without a goal in 17 games previous to that.

The Canucks asked for a video review on the goal, questioning whether there was goaltender interference, but the call on the ice stood.

Markstrom's night was a busy one between the pipes for Vancouver, especially in a hectic second period where the 26-year-old backstop turned away 19 shots and was big when he needed to be during two Jets power plays.

Markstrom stopped 35 shots before the Jets were finally able to beat him.

Jets rookie forward Nic Petan, recently recalled from AHL affiliate Manitoba Moose, seemed especially energized Tuesday night on his 21st birthday. Since making the Jets out of training camp where he played 14 games before his reassignment back to the AHL in late November, Petan has now dressed in three consecutive games for Winnipeg.

Finding himself on the Jets' top line alongside the team's top two scorers in Blake Wheeler and Scheifele, Petan produced a couple quality chances, hitting a post on a backhand attempt early in the second period before being robbed by the glove of Markstrom from in close on a power play soon after.

Vancouver – 14-14-7 on road this year, while just 13-19-5 at home – continue its three-game road trip through the Central Division with stops in Nashville on Thursday and St. Louis on Friday.

The Jets, who continue to jockey for draft position amongst the cellar-dwelling clubs at the bottom of the NHL standings, conclude their current four-game home stretch on Thursday night when they host the Pacific Division leading Los Angeles Kings.
