Los Angeles Kings' forward Ethan Moreau has been fined $2,500, the maximum allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for boarding Pittsburgh Penguins forward Chris Kunitz Saturday night in Los Angeles, the NHL announced Sunday.

It took place in the first period of Saturday's game, and it was reviewed by the NHL's Department of Player Safety. A minor penalty for boarding was assessed on the play at the time. Boarding is defined in the NHL rule book as occurring when a player checks or pushes a defenseless opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to hit or impact the boards violently in the boards.

The fine money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
