Charline Labonte was named Canada's starting goaltender for women's world hockey championship opener against the United States.

The 29-year-old from Boisbriand, Que., is the most experienced goaltender on the women's team with 11 years on the squad.

Labonte's last start against the U.S. was at the Four Nations Cup in November.

She made 34 saves in Canada's 3-1 win over the Americans in a preliminary-round game.
