Maple Leafs sign Ben Scrivens to two-year contract

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed goaltender Ben Scrivens to a two-year contract worth $1.25 million.

Scrivens will make $600,000 in the first year of the deal and $625,000 in the second. The second year of the contract is one way, indicating the Leafs plan for Scrivens to stick with the NHL club by that time.

Scrivens played most of last season in the American Hockey League, where he helped the Toronto Marlies reach the Calder Cup final.

The 6-foot-2, 192-pound native of Spruce Grove, Alta., played in all 17 games for the Marlies in the AHL playoffs, posting a 1.92 goals against average, a .935 save percentage and three shutouts.

In 39 regular-season games with the Marlies, Scrivens has a record of 22-15-1, with four shutouts, an AHL-best 2.04 goals against average and a .926 save percentage.

Scrivens also played 12 games for the Maple Leafs, registering a record of 4-5-2 with a 3.13 goals against average and a .903 save percentage. He made his NHL debut, recorded his first win and stopped 38 shots in the Leafs' 4-1 victory on Nov. 3 at Columbus.

Scrivens originally signed with the Maple Leafs as a free agent on April 28, 2010.
