Jamal Mayers

The National Hockey League has fined Chicago Blackhawks forward Jamal Mayers for his antics prior to Game 5 in Chicago.

Mayers was fined a half-days pay after shooting pucks into the Red Wings zone and their goal during pre-game warmups.

"I was trying to get under their skin, I'm not going to hide behind it or lie to you," Mayers was quoted as saying by the Chicago Tribune ahead of Monday's game in Detroit. "The league fined me and took the appropriate action and I'll pay the piper."

Mayers, who has yet to play a single game for the Blackhawks this postseason, is earning $650,000 this season and is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this July.

The Red Wings lead the best of seven series 3-2 and can advance to the Conference finals with a victory tonight.
