NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly. The Associated Press

The NHL's deputy commissioner expects collective bargaining talks to resume in the "relatively near future."

Bill Daly told The Canadian Press that the league and NHL Players' Association are still working through logistics.

The sides last met on Oct. 18, when the union responded to the NHL's latest offer by tabling three proposals.

None of those gained any traction.

Daly has maintained regular contact with Steve Fehr, the NHLPA's special counsel, but the sides have been unable to agree on how best to resume talks.

The NHL has cancelled all of its regular-season games through Nov. 30 and is expected to wipe the Jan. 1 Winter Classic outdoor game off the schedule later Friday.
