Penguins 2, Kings 1, OT

Jordan Staal scored at 4:41 of overtime, leading Pittsburgh to the victory.

It appeared a shootout was on the way before Staal ripped a shot past Jonathan Quick for his fourth goal, giving the Penguins a needed burst of good news in a tumultuous week.

Penguins captain Sidney Crosby stopped by the morning skate and said there is no timetable for his return from a concussion. The Penguins have been gutted by injuries and played four callups plucked from the minors Thursday morning.

Brett Sterling, one of those callups, scored his first goal for the Penguins.

Jarret Stoll scored for the Kings.

Pittsburgh's Dan Bylsma became the third coach in team history to win 100 games. His .657 winning percentage entering the game was already tops in team history.

Flyers 2, Hurricanes 1

Jeff Carter and Danny Briere each scored a power-play goal for Philadelphia and Brian Boucher stopped 31 shots.

The Flyers took advantage of Carolina's weak penalty-killing unit while improving to 13-3 in 2011. The Hurricanes were 23rd in the league against the power play entering Thursday's games, 25th on the road.

Carolina's Tuomo Ruutu was called for slashing late in the second period and Philadelphia made the most of the man advantage early in the third. Carter took a pass from Mike Richards and fired a wrist shot off Cam Ward's glove to make it 1-0.

Briere scored his team-best 27th goal at 11:27.

Ruutu scored for Carolina, and Ward made 23 saves.

Sabres 3, Panthers 2

Tyler Myers scored at 4:55 in overtime, lifting Buffalo to the victory.

Myers' slapshot from well above the right circle went over Tomas Vokoun's left shoulder and into the net for his seventh goal of the season.

Mike Weber and Thomas Vanek also scored for the Sabres, who lost their two previous games against the Panthers this season. Ryan Miller made 24 saves.

Steve Bernier and Marty Reasoner scored for Florida, which has lost five straight home games. Vokoun stopped 24 shots.
