Montreal Canadiens' P.K. Subban was warned once but now has been fined for divingPaul Chiasson/The Canadian Press

Montreal Canadiens defenceman P.K. Subban has been fined $2,000 for diving/embellishment, the NHL announced on Wednesday.

Subban was issued a warning, but not penalized, about diving following a game against the Tampa Bay Lightning back on January 6. He was then given a citation after being assessed a minor penalty for embellishment during a game against the New York Rangers on January 29. Rangers forward Chris Kreider also received a minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct on the same play.

Under NHL Rule 64, fines for diving or embellishment are assessed to players even if a penalty is not called on the ice. Fines work on a graduated scale starting at $2,000 for an initial offence and climbing by $1,000 for each additional infraction up to a maximum of $5,000 for the fourth citation and beyond.
