Buffalo Sabres owner Terry Pegula has not stopped spending - forward Ville Leino was his latest acquisition on Friday afternoon.

The former Philadelphia Flyer, who scored the overtime winner that knocked the Buffalo Sabres out of the NHL playoffs last spring, signed a six-year, $27-million contract with the Sabres. This came a day after Sabres general manager Darcy Regier signed defenceman Christian Ehrhoff for 10 years and $40-million.

Leino, 27, had 53 points for the Flyers last season and was pursued by several teams. But they were not ready to match the Sabres' aggressive offer of $4.5-million per season.
