Florence Schelling made 50 saves to help Switzerland beat Finland 6-2 on Saturday in the bronze-medal game in the Women's World Hockey Championships.
Switzerland earned its first medal in the event that has been held 14 times since 1990.
"It's an awesome feeling and we really didn't know how we would feel when we won," Switzerland defenceman Julia Marty said. "I'm so happy for the entire team."
Marty gave Switzerland a 3-2 lead at 9:37 of the second. Marty added an assist, and Kathrin Lehman, Katrin Nabholz also each had a goal and an assist.
A first-team All-America selection and Hockey East Player of the Year at Northeastern this year, Schelling made 219 saves in five tournament games, including 109 in the last two. She stopped 42 of 44 shots in a 5-2 win over Russia in the quarterfinals and made 59 saves against the United States in the semifinals on Friday night.
"We could always count on Florence every second of every game- all of us have so much confidence in her," Marty said
