Anton Slepyshev, Nikita Zadorov and Vadim Khlopotov each scored twice as Russia thumped Norway 11-0 at the IIHF World Junior hockey tournament in Sweden on Thursday.

Mikhail Grigorenko and Damir Zhafyarov had a goal and two assists a piece, while Nikia Tryamkin, Vyacheslav Osnovin, and Alexander Barabanov also scored for Russia in its first game of the under-20 event.

Norway's goaltender Henrik Haukeland made 17 saves on 27 shots through the first two periods before he was replaced by Joachim Svendsen to start the third. Svendsen gave up one goal on seven shots.

Russian goaltenders Ivan Nalimov and Andrei Vasilevski stopped 15 combined shots for the shutout.

Nalimov played 30:40, making eight saves, while Vasilevski played the final 29:20 and turned aside seven shots.

Earlier, Canada downed Germany 7-2.
