Eugenie Bouchard's impressive run at the Family Circle Cup has come to an end.
The native of Westmount,Que., fell to former world No. 1 Jelena Jankovic 6-2, 6-1 in quarter-final action Friday.
Despite the loss, Bouchard made a statement at the tournament.
She had to go through qualifying to reach the main draw and beat Italian qualifier Natassja Burnett in the first round, before scoring a pair of impressive upsets.
She defeated British rising star Laura Robson in the second round, then scored a surprising win over world No. 9 and former Grand Slam champion Samantha Stosur in the third round. Bouchard won the first set 6-1 and was up 2-0 in the second when Stosur retired with a leg injury.
But she met her match in Jankovic, who is ranked 18th in the world. The Serb broke Bouchard's serve in the first game — the first of six break points Bouchard would fail to save — and cruised to victory in just under 63 minutes.
Bouchard, currently ranked 114th in the world, won a junior girls singles title and Wimbledon last year, and the junior girls doubles titles for two straight years at the All England Club.
