Canada overcame an early defeat to beat Brazil 2-1 in the final of the Fed Cup Americas Zone Group 1 event Saturday.

Eugenie Bouchard of Westmount, Que., beat Teliana Pereira 6-2, 6-2 before Toronto's Sharon Fichman and Ottawa's Gabriela Dabrowski teamed up to clinch the tie with a 7-6 (4), 7-5 win over Pereira and Laura Pigossi.

Fichman lost the opening singles match 0-6, 6-0, 6-4 to Paula Cristina Goncalves.

The win moves Canada into the World Group 2 playoffs for the first time since sweeping Argentina 5-0 in 2010. Canada went on to lose both ties in 2011 against Serbia and Slovenia.

Canada's draw for the playoffs will be determined Wednesday.
