Canadians Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje won the gold medal in ice dancing on Saturday at the Ondrej Nepela Trophy figure skating competition.

The defending Canadian silver medalists from Waterloo, Ont., scored 97.51 on their free dance to end the competition with 161.39 points.

Lorenza Alessandrini and Simone Vaturi of Italy were second at 126.87 and Charlotte Aiken and Joshua Whidbourne of Britain third at 118.50

In men's competition, Kevin Reynolds of Coquitlam, B.C., produced the second best free program of the day to climb from sixth to fourth overall with 192.12 points, less than three points shy of the podium.

Tatsuki Machida led Japan to a 1-2 finish with 227.58 points. Daisuke Murakami was second at 206.99 and Tomas Verner of the Czech Republic third at 194.91.
