Aleksandra Wozniak of Blainville, Que., came up short Wednesday in her bid to reach her first WTA semifinal of the season at the Texas Tennis Open in Dallas, losing to Australian qualifier Casey Dellacqua 6-4, 6-4.

Dallacqua upset the tournament's fourth seed Yanina Wickmayer in the previous round, and was dominant early in the match.

Wozniak jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second set, but multiple errors allowed Dellacqua to overcome the deficit in a match that was completed in 67 minutes.

Wozniak will now head to New York to compete in the U.S. Open, the final Grand Slam event of the season which begins on Monday.
