Canadian Glenn Howard needed an extra end against Sven Michel of Switzerland to preserve his perfect record at the Masters Grand Slam of Curling on Friday.
The skip from Coldwater, Ont., scored one in the ninth end to edge Michel 7-6 and improve to 4-0 atop the men's standings.
Edmonton's Kevin Martin is in a three-way for second at 3-1 following a 6-2 win over American Tyler George. China's Rui Liu moved to 3-1 in the only men's Draw 11 match with a 7-3 win over Norway's Thomas Ulsrud (1-3).
Rasmus Stjerne of Denmark is also at 3-1.
On the women's side, Saskatoon's Stefanie Lawton and Edmonton's Heather Nedohin moved into a four-way tie for second place with Winnipeg's Jennifer Jones and Switzerland's Mirjam Ott, who were idle.
Lawton (3-1) scored three in the sixth end in a 7-3 win over Sherry Middaugh of Coldwater, Ont., (2-2).
Nedohin (3-1) scored one in an extra end to edge China's Bingyu Wang (1-3).
In other Draw 11 results, Winnipeg's Chelsea Carey (2-2) warned a 6-2 win over Russia's Anna Sidorova (2-2) and Ottawa's Rachel Homan (2-2) cruised to a 9-2 victory over Japan's Satsuki Fujisawa (0-4).
Margaretha Sigfridsson of Sweden leads the women's standings at 4-0.
