Vancouver's Filip Peliwo became the second Canadian to reach the second round of the Rogers Cup men's tennis tournament Tuesday with a comeback win over Finland's Jarkko Nieminen.

Peliwo was leading 3-6, 7-5, 3-1 when 32-year-old Nieminen retired with a hamstring injury.

Peliwo, 19, ranked No. 353 in the world, trailed 3-0 in the second set but rallied to tie the left-hander 5-5 after saving one match point.

He broke again to win the set.

Peliwo joins Ottawa's Jesse Levine, a winner Monday over Xavier Malisse, in the second round.
