It's been a heady month for Eugénie Bouchard, above, of Montreal – Wimbledon junior championship, Granby Challenger win, a 19-match winning streak that ended in the quarter-finals in Washington this past week, and it just keeps getting better.
Tennis Canada announced Friday that three players from Quebec – Bouchard, Stéphanie Dubois and Aleksandra Wozniak – all received wild cards into the main draw of the Rogers Cup in Montreal, which is classified as a WTA premier event.
For the 18-year-old Bouchard, it will be her second appearance in the main draw of the Rogers Cup, where she will be joined by the 25-year-old Dubois, who reached the third round of the tournament in both 2006 and 2008. Wozniak is the highest-ranked Canadian women's player, at No. 52, and is fresh off a second-round loss to American Venus Williams in the 2012 Olympics in London. Wozniak has never made it out of the first round of the Rogers Cup.
In addition, eight other players will compete in the qualifying tournament for Montreal: Françoise Abanda (Montreal), Gabriela Dabrowski (Ottawa), Marianne Jodoin (Varennes, Que.), Sonya Molnar (Guelph, Ont.), Erin Routliffe and Carol Zhao (both of Richmond Hill, Ont.) all received wild cards into the qualifiers along with Sharon Fichman (Toronto) and Marie-Eve Pelletier (Repentigny, Que.), who made it on the basis of their tour rankings. The qualifications will get under way Saturday and continue until Monday, as 64 players will face off for eight spots in the main draw.
