Three strikes for Canada on three medal chances Friday.
Shot put, men's trampoline and the men's rowing pair didn't yield a podium finish.
Canada's medal count remains at two silver, five bronze.
Canada remains in contention for a top-12 finish in the overall medal standings because of a large drop-off in medals won by countries outside the top 10.
The good:
— The women's soccer team advances to the semifinals with 2-0 win over host Britain.
— The women's basketball team is into the quarter-finals with a 79-73 win over Brazil.
— Victoria's Ryan Cochrane posts third-fastest time in qualifying to advance to 1,500-metre freestyle final.
— Calgary's Jessica Zelinka bounces back from rough high jump with a strong 200 metres to sit third in hepathlon.
— Custio Clayton of Dartmouth, N.S., makes boxing quarter-finals in men's welterweight division.
— Synchronized diving bronze winners Jennifer Abel of Laval, Que., and Emilie Heymans of St-Lambert, Que., qualify fourth and sixth for the individual springboard semifinals.
The bad:
— Shot put medal contender Dylan Armstrong of Kamloops, B.C., throws well off his personal best and finishes fifth.
— Jason Burnett of Nobleton, Ont., makes a fatal mistake on his second manouvre in the men's trampoline final to fall out of contention. Burnett was a silver medalist in 2008.
— The rowing men's pair of Victoria's Dave Calder and Scott Fransen of Kelowna, B.C., finish sixth.
Grade: C
Victoria's Ryan Cochrane in the pool and Karen Cockburn of Stouffville, Ont., and Rosannagh MacLennan of King City, Ont., on the trampoline are Canada's top medal contenders on Day 8.
